I think this approach is something that needs a lot more attention. We should not expect women to bear the brunt of the aftermath of abuse and let the abuser just carry on with the same attitudes that made them abuse. There must be an onus on the abuser to change, because they will go on to abuse again if they are not rehabilitated.
