A plaque has been put up in Ludlow, celebrating the work of Mary Edwards 200 years ago - hailed as the first female human “computer”.

Mary Edwards lived in Ludlow more than 200 years ago, compiling nautical tables.

Her story is all the more remarkable because her husband, Reverend John Edwards, took credit for her work until he died.

Now her work has been recognised by the Civic Society in Ludlow.
